BLIND SPOT @ THE CRYPT gALLERY
The Z4TA Bar & Arcade is launched as a physical installation piece at The Crypt Gallery, London.
A hand-made physical arcade machine, which runs an offline build of the Unity game, becomes the central controller for a series of animations which are projected onto the walls behind. The lights and buttons are also controlled from Unity via micro-controllers, allowing for different sequences to fire dependant on the players interaction with the game.
UDP packets from within the Unity game trigger the appropriate animation, acting as ‘easter eggs’ within the installation.
Playing with the idea of reward and conditioning, this method means certain animations and specific light sequences are only viewable dependant on the players perseverance and engagement with the various rooms of the game.
This prototype slot machine was an experimental approach to bringing the virtual into the physical, and whilst it proved itself as a success, it also presents a whole host of possibilties when considering how to improve upon this installation.
